Welcome to Anchorage
Alaska Airlines took me over the last part of my long journey: Los Angeles-Anchorage. Last 20 minutes of the flight offered simply unbelievable views – snowy mountains everywhere. I must admit I have never seen anylike these. So huge and majestic.
WARM AIRPORT WELCOME
Stepping out from the aircraft knowing that this is my final destination was really relieving. To my surprise even my luggage had arrived so I was all complete. Now just to find Ilona – the lady I was supposed to stay with. She is having bed and breakfast at her house and we rent a room there with my friend, it was the cheapest option we found and the lady seemed really nice – considering plenty of Skype calls we had. And saying plenty I really mean plenty. Need to say she is a bit older and therefore forgetful. So even though we arranged everything – our arrival date, rent… she always called again to make sure. However, asking: „Sweetie, when are you coming? Tomorrow?“ on May 18 made me quite nervous because we arranged our arrival on June 14.
JOYRIDE BIKING
However, we made it and apart from Ilona and her husband I met another girl staying at their house. Her name is Jana and she is from the Czech Republic too so it was a really nice surprise. We agreed to share one room (and one bed) before my or her friend comes. And we borrowed bikes from Ilona and immediately set off to explore the town. But because we were both tired (Jana arrived just one day before me), it was just a short trip. She stopped by at her job and on our way back we used The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail which offers beautiful views. And together with the sunny weather it was just the best welcome we could have wished.
The idea that this is the place where I should spend following 3 months was suddenly not bad at all.
