Why the Netherlands [up]

Study in one of the most open and cosmopolitan places in Europe, where there are no compromises in the education system. Dutch universities belong to the best in Europe and in the world. There are two types of universities in the Netherlands: research universities, and universities of applied sciences, where the focus is more on the practical side of things and students are prepared for the job market right after they finish their studies. One year of internship is a part of the studies at universities of applied sciences.

So what are the main advantages of studying in the Netherlands?

  • Your English is going to be flawless. No more fears from job interviews in English! On the contrary, it will become your advantage when applying for a job.
  • 1 year of work experience is part of your studies. You do an internship in the third semester, and write your bachelor thesis in a company in the sixth semester.
  • The curricula of the study programmes have been written with the help of CEOs and managers of big companies in the Netherlands, so that the skills and knowledge of students correspond to the demand of employers.
  • Dutch universities work very closely with local companies. Employers like to spot and attract the best talent already during their time at university.
  • The focus is both on high quality theoretical background, and on applying knowledge in practice.
  • Exams are based on practical assignments therefore you won’t have to memorize unnecessary information.
  • In your third semester, you can either go on study exchange anywhere in the world, or stay in the Netherlands and study a minor.
  • If you chose to study the most popular programme in the Netherlands, International Business and Management Studies, one semester abroad is mandatory.
  • Classes are small (maximum 30 people) and team projects (around 5 people in a group) are the core of the studies. Thus you can continuously improve your communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • The tuition fee is very low, currently it is 1984 EUR per academic year. You can also make use of the loan provided by the Dutch government and start paying only 2 years after you finish your studies. You will then have up to 15 years to pay back the money.
  • You can work in Holland alongside your studies to help cover your costs. Moreover, if you work at least 56 hours a month, you can apply for a bursary of up to 500 EUR a month!
